Faces in the Crowd

Will Freeman | Hoover, Ala. | Swimming

Will, a senior at Spain Park High, became a four-time champ in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyles at the state meet, setting Alabama records in each event. He lowered the 200 mark he set last year to 1:37.39 and broke the 500 record, set in 2007, with a 4:27.36 finish. He will swim at Alabama.

Simone Lee | Menomonee Falls, Wis. | Volleyball

Simone, a senior outside hitter at Menomonee Falls High, had 21 kills and a .381 hitting percentage in a 3--0 win over Westosha Central for the Division 1 state title — the Indians' first. In August she helped the youth national team to silver at the Under-18 worlds in Thailand. Simone will play at Penn State.

Cameron Young | Scarborough, N.Y. | Golf

MarieElena Bolles | Phoenixville, Pa. | Field Hockey

Bolles, a senior forward at UConn, scored her team's lone goal against North Carolina in the Division I semifinal, which the Huskies won in a shootout. In the final she had an assist to help beat Duke 2--0 for the national title. Bolles was named the National Field Hockey Coaches of America player of the year.

Kai Wilmot | Spokane, Wash. | Cross-country

Kai, a senior at North Central High, defeated a field of 197 to win the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland. He beat the runner-up by nine seconds in an event-record 15:00. Kai, who struggled with leg and hip injuries this year, won the Bob Firman Invitational in Boise, Idaho, in September and was fourth in the state 3A meet.

Aliya Itzkowitz | London | Fencing

Itzkowitz, a Harvard sophomore who competes in sabre, dropped only one bout for a team-best 14--1 record in the Tradition Tournament at Sacred Heart, where the Crimson beat all five of their opponents to start the season 6--0. Last month Itzkowitz placed 33rd at the Junior World Cup in Poland.
