Faces in the Crowd

Tyus Jones | Apple Valley, Minn. | Basketball

Tyus, a 6'2" senior point guard at Apple Valley High, had a game-high 28 points, including a second-half dunk over a defender, in a 72--59 win over Blue Valley Northwest (Overland Park, Kans.) at the Timberwolves Shootout. He led the Eagles to their first 4A state title last year and helped the U.S. Under-17 team to the 2012 world title. He will play at Duke.

Napheesa Collier | O'Fallon, Mo. | Basketball

Napheesa, a 6'1" junior forward at Incarnate Word Academy, had a game-high 27 points to help defeat Hazelwood Central 88--44 in the Visitation Christmas Tournament final. She was named MVP. Last year she led the Red Knights to an unbeaten season and the Class 4 state title and was named Missouri's Gatorade player of the year.

William Eskay | Ijamsville, Md. | Soccer

William, a senior striker at Urbana High, scored two goals in a 4--1 win over Northern High to lead the Hawks to their first 3A title. They were the state's only unbeaten and untied team (20--0). William had 28 goals and 13 assists to finish as Urbana's alltime points leader (129). He is verbally committed to play at William & Mary.

Bethany Galat | Mishawaka, Ind. | Swimming

Bethany, a senior at Penn High, swam the 100-yard freestyle in 50.66 to set a pool record at a home meet against St. Joseph High (South Bend). She broke the mark of 51.38 set in 1993 by Lindsay Mintenko (née Benko), a three-time Olympic medalist. The defending junior national champion in the 100-meter breast, Bethany will swim at Texas A&M.

Gabe Dean | Lowell, Mich. | Wrestling

Dean, a freshman at Cornell, went 6--0 to win the 184-pound title at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, snapping the 84-match winning streak of Penn State's top-ranked, two-time defending national champion, Ed Ruth, with a 7--4 decision in the final. It was Dean's 12th straight victory. He was named USA Wrestling's athlete of the week.

Sydney Moss | St. Albans, W. Va. | Basketball

Moss, a sophomore swingman at Thomas More College (Crestview Hills, Ky.) had game highs of 23 points and 11 boards in a 94--46 win over Geneva College for her season's sixth double double. The daughter of former NFL receiver Randy Moss, she transferred from Florida after last year. At week's end she was averaging a Division-III leading 24.9 points.
