Jacob Molacek | Omaha | Swimming
Jacob, a Creighton Prep senior, set a 100-yard breaststroke national record (52.92) in a heat at the Nebraska state championships. He won titles in that race, the 200 IM (setting a 1:45.50 state mark in prelims), and the 200- and 400-free relays, where the legs he swam also set state records.
Jamie Cherry | Cove City, N.C. | Basketball
Jamie, a senior guard at West Craven High, made a state-record 12 three-pointers and scored 52 points in the Eagles' 87--42 win over Triton in the Class 3A playoffs' second round. She is second alltime in state scoring, with 3,225 points through Sunday, and plans to attend North Carolina in the fall.
Evan Kraatz | Allen Park, Mich. | Basketball
Evan, a senior point guard at Inter-City Baptist High, had 10 assists in a 74--57 win over Lutheran Northwest to set a state career record; his mark stands at 775. He surpassed his father, Mark Kraatz (now No. 4 with 679), who was in FACES IN THE CROWD as a junior with the Chargers in 1984.
Eike Daube | Long Beach, Calif. | Water Polo
Daube, a junior two-meter player, punched in two overtime goals to help USC come back from a 6--5 deficit to beat rival UCLA 7--6 for a second straight UC Irvine Invitational title and a 12--0 start to the season. In the semifinals she had a fourth-quarter hat trick to help beat Cal 12--7.
Artie Burns | Miami | Indoor Track and Field
Burns, a freshman at Miami, ran a 7.68 in the 60-meter hurdles at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational meet to break the U.S. junior record of 7.70, set in 1976. Two weeks later he won the ACC title in 7.74. Burns also played cornerback for the Canes and had 17 tackles last season.
Anna Kimberley | Essex, England | Squash
Kimberley, a freshman at Trinity College in Hartford, went 3--1 at the College Squash Association national team championship held at Princeton, winning the deciding game 11--9 over Harvard sophomore Saumya Karki to help the Bantams hand defending champion Harvard its first loss 5--4.
