The new KD7s are sweet but not elite on the aftermarket

NIKE DESIGNERS had big shoes to fill after Kevin Durant rode his signature KD6 to an MVP. The new KD7 includes a silhouette of Maryland, Durant's home state, on the outsole and the names of his family members on the strap. The second of five designs hit stores last Saturday. Called "35,000 Degrees," it's inspired by the average temperature of a lightning strike, a link to Durant's childhood interest in meteorology. They sell for $150, but savvy shoppers can earn a 50% return on their investment in the smoking-hot resale market. A nice profit, but a pittance compared to some of the highest-value limited edition kicks in circulation.

Nike Dunk Pro SB "For Love or Money"

This is a shoe so rare its mere existence was questioned for a time. Designed by legendary graffiti artist Futura, only 24 pairs were made, and most of them went to friends of the artist.

Nike Air MAG "Back to the Future"

In 2011 the Michael J. Fox Foundation auctioned off 1,500 pairs of these replicas of the futuristic sneakers Fox wore as Marty McFly in Back to the Future II. Sadly, the MAG didn't feature self-tying laces as in the movie.

Current resale: $7,500

Nike Dunk Low Pro SB "Pigeon"

A near riot broke out in New York City where sneakerheads were awaiting a shot at 20 of the 150 pairs designed by a local artist. After police subdued the crowd, a knife and baseball bat were reportedly found on the scene.

Current resale: $7,000

Nike LeBron IX "Watch the Throne"

When Jay Z and Kanye joined up for a megatour in 2011, Nike created a special version of its LeBrons to mark the occasion. An unknown number were given to James's friends and never hit retail stores. Some wound up on eBay anyway.

Current resale: $4,500

Reebok Pump 20th Anniversary "Solebox"

In 2009, Reebok celebrated the birth of its signature shoe by releasing 20 limited-edition designs. The Solebox featured glow-in-the-dark elements and a light-up pump. Only 31 pairs of each design were made.

Current resale: $4,000

Adidas Training '72 NG

A tribute to former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, timed to the release of his 2011 solo record, they feature his mug in gold on the tongue and his signature on the heel. Only 200 pairs were made.

Current resale: $3,500

SIGN OF THE APOCALYPSE

A man shown sleeping at an April 13 Yankees--Red Sox game has brought a $10 million suit against MLB, ESPN and the Yankees for defamation and emotional distress.
