FOR SEPT. 22, 2014

Your article on KMOX reminded me of the days when guys such as Harry Caray actually described the games they were broadcasting. "The pitcher takes the sign, stretches, checks on the runner, kicks and throws." Now all we get is the pitch count and bad commentary.

Carl Heldt, Evansville, Ind.

Didn't the NFL notice that Greg Hardy(Hard Choices) had already been convicted of domestic violence? The league needs to do some serious policing regarding its rules for deviant behavior so I don't have to watch convicted batterers cheered on by fans every Sunday.

Marsha Stickler, Charlotte

I really liked your article on the Seahawks (Still Super), but I was truly amazed by your near-perfect prediction (a 26--20 win) for their game against the Broncos. Do you have any numbers that I can use for next week's Montana lottery?

Allen Cormany, Helena, Mont.

I enjoyed your story on the Broncos' defense (That Old Orange Magic). It took me back to my many memories of the old Orange Crush. However, I was disappointed to see that there was hardly any mention of the Broncos' D from their Super Bowl wins—great players like Steve Atwater, John Mobley and Alfred Williams.

Rick Subiono, Honolulu

COVER

Thanks for the Marcus Mariota cover story. If, as Greg Bedard writes, a guy like Mariota might be too nice for the NFL, then the league that has brought us the likes of Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and Greg Hardy is in even more trouble than we thought.

Karl Svatek Denton, N.C.

DAN PATRICK

With the endless barrage of stories about NFL players and their issues off the field, the Devon Still interview was a breath of fresh air. Hats off to the Bengals for assisting Still during his daughter's battle with cancer.

POINT AFTER

Steve Rushin makes a great point in explaining how sports can act as a catalyst for tough conversations about social issues. The actions of those involved in sports not only affect public opinion but also many of today's youth who are watching.

Blake Himebaugh Bloomington, Ind.
