Alex, a senior at Darien High, ran an 11:57.2 in the 2.5-mile Eastern States Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx; he's the second high school runner to break 12 minutes on the course. A week earlier he set the record in the 5K Woods Trail Run in Thetford, Vt., breaking the 16-minute barrier (15:44.75). Alex is the defending Class L state titlist.
Nia Walcott | Washington, D.C. | Soccer
Walcott, a senior midfielder at Howard, scored back-to-back game-winners to help the Bison remain at the top of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (at week's end they were 7--1 in the SWAC). She had the lone score in the 17th minute against Alabama A&M and clinched a 3--2 win over Alabama State in the 86th minute. Walcott's six goals lead the team.
Izak Epstein | Long Beach, Calif. | Rowing
Izak, a senior at Long Beach Polytechnic High who competes with the Long Beach Junior Crew, placed fourth in the men's youth four at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. In June he helped his club win its first national championship in the men's eight. Two months later Izak stroked the U.S. straight four to 10th at junior worlds in Hamburg.
Sarah Daley | Beverly, Mass. | Golf
Sarah, a senior co-captain at Beverly High, shot a 40 in nine holes (cut from 18 due to rain) at The Meadow at Peabody, then won a one-hole playoff over Marblehead High's Owen Picariello and Jake Tempel to become the first female winner in 42 years of the Northeastern Conference Open. She has verbally committed to play at Franklin Pierce.
Rasheed Bailey | Philadelphia | Football
Bailey, a senior wideout at Division III Delaware Valley College, broke the school's receiving yardage record with 252 in a 56--24 win over Albright, and he tied marks for receptions (11 to beat Montclair State 30--20) and touchdowns (four in a 59--41 defeat of Lebanon Valley). He leads D-III in receiving yards (1,053) and is second in TD catches (12).
Taylor and Lauren Gough | Hanover, Pa. | Soccer
Taylor (far left), a fullback, and Lauren, a forward—two of a set of triplets at South Western High—combined to break school career marks during the same play. On a free kick in a 3--1 loss to Northeastern High, Taylor earned her record 21st assist in setting up Lauren's record 43rd goal.
