Faces in the Crowd

Carsten Vissering | Bethesda, Md. | Swimming

Carsten, a senior at Georgetown Prep, won the 100-yard breaststroke against Gonzaga College High with a 53.97—his fourth-fastest time in the event, in which he holds the U.S. 15-to-16 age-group record (52.83). He also took the 200 IM (1:55.12) and turned in a 46.02 anchor leg in the 400 free relay. Carsten will swim at USC.

Jincy Dunne | O'Fallon, Mo. | Ice Hockey

Jincy, a senior defenseman at The Fulton School in Saint Albans who plays for Westminster Christian Academy, scored twice, including a power-play goal in overtime, to lift the U.S. to the Under-18 world title with a 3--2 win over Canada. The team captain, Jincy led all defensemen in the tournament with eight points. She will play at Ohio State.

Deion Holmes | Chesnee, S.C. | Basketball

Deion, a 6'3" senior guard at Chesnee High, scored a school-record 61 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in an 83--72 win over Greenville's Carolina High. He also set a state mark with 27 free throws, missing just once from the line. Deion, a McDonald's All-American Game nominee, was averaging 39.8 points at week's end. He will play at USC-Upstate.

Bella Burda | Pleasant Valley, N.Y. | Cross-country; Track

Bella, a senior at Arlington High, won the 3K at the indoor Molloy Stanner Games in New York City in 10:03.63, No. 2 in the nation this season through Sunday. She went unbeaten in the regular season last fall and won the Class A state title in 17:49, the Federation Championship in 17:50 and the Nike Cross Nationals New York Regional in 18:15. Bella will run at Villanova.

Seth Guillory | Long Beach, Calif. | Basketball

Seth, a 5'8" senior point guard at Jordan High, scored 28 points to lead the Panthers to a 54--53 upset of Compton High, the No. 1 team in Division 2A. He followed that with 41 points, including five straight threes, in an 83--77 victory over Lakewood High. A McDonald's All-American Game nominee, Seth was averaging 29.0 points in league play through Sunday.

Carylyn Waite | Tampa | Swimming

Waite, a freshman at Division II Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., who has set five school records, broke her own mark in the 100-yard free in 52.50, won the 200 free (1:55.06) and led the 400 free relay to victory (3:36.49) as the Hounds beat 11 teams for the WPI Gompei Invitational title. She was named the Northeast-10 Conference swimmer of the week.
