"These hybrids are very comfortable to hit. They have a pretty big head, so there's a little room for error. They go through [turf] easily, even if you don't have a great lie."

TECH TALK
Metal Works
TaylorMade Tour Preferred EF wedge
The proprietary electroformed (EF) nickel cobalt face plate is 50% harder than typical carbon steel, so the grooves wear down at a slower rate than in standard wedges. Bonding the corrugated face plate to a 1025 carbon-steel body provides a soft feel. The Tour Grind sole (right) is a traditional C-grind with heel and toe relief for added versatility, while the ATV Grind (narrower sole than the original ATV) maintains more bounce on open-faced shots. Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson and Jason Day are among the pros using it on the PGA Tour. Lofts are 47°, 50°, 52°, 54°, 56°, 58°, 60° and 62°. $160 each.
SPIN CONTROL
Durable nickel cobalt grooves maintain their sharp edges longer than they do in many other wedges.
