"When my Cobra guy sets up my wedges, he always does artwork on them. These have a smile. My nephew, Nico, has his name on there too. It gets me smiling whenever I pull out a wedge. Make it fun."

Ping i irons
The popular i25 is being phased out as Ping debuts a better-player stick simply called i. Made from 431 stainless steel, the i model feels softer at impact than the i25, which is cast from harder 17-4 stainless steel. Positioning the "custom tuning port" lower and deeper in the cavity should also enhance feel and sound. The set packs a punch, too, with 1° stronger lofts in the 3- to 8-irons and one-quarter-inch longer shafts in the 3- to 9-irons. The i has more perimeter weighting than its predecessor, so misses should be more playable. These irons come with Ping's CFS Distance steel or CFS graphite shaft. Available on July 30. $1,000, steel; $1,100, graphite.
SOFT METAL
The heads, which are cast from 431 stainless steel, provide better acoustics than in the i25.
