FACES IN THE CROWD

Norman Grimes | Canyon, Texas | Track and Field

Norman, a rising senior at Canyon High, ran a personal best and world-youth-leading 49.11 for gold in the 400-meter hurdles at the World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia. Two weeks later he won the event at the Pan American Junior Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, in 50.10. In May he took the Texas 5A title in the 300 hurdles (36.35).

Tara Davis | Agoura Hills, Calif. | Track and Field

Tara, a junior at Agoura High in the fall, won the long jump at the Youth Worlds in Colombia, with a PR of 21' ½", becoming the first U.S. athlete, male or female, to take gold in the event. In May she won the 100 hurdles (13.85), the long jump (20'6") and the triple jump (41 feet) at the California Southern Section finals.

Ash Molthen | Buena Park, Calif. | Water Polo

Ash, a rising sophomore at Orange Lutheran High, scored twice to lead Northwood to the 16-and-under Junior Olympics gold in Irvine, Calif., beating top-seeded Del Mar 7--5. The lefthanded attacker was voted tournament MVP. Last season he helped the Lancers reach the Southern Section D-1 quarterfinals and was named All--Trinity League.

Sarah Schaefer | Waukee, Iowa | Softball

Sarah, a junior righthander at Waukee High this fall, won five consecutive state playoff games, culminating in a 6--4 victory over defending champion Johnston High for the Class 5A title. She was named all-state and captain of the all-tournament team. Sarah finished with a 19--4 record and a 1.80 ERA, and hit .383.

Jake Munoz | Atlanta | Football

Jake, a rising senior at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian High, was named the MVP long snapper at Football University training camp in Coral Springs, Fla. In January he had the second-best average 15-yard snap time of .62 at Rubio Long Snapping's Vegas XXV camp. Jake, who has a vision disorder that makes him sensitive to bright light, will play at Georgia State.

Jocelyn Willoughby | East Orange, N.J. | Basketball

Jocelyn, a rising senior at Newark Academy in Livingston, led her iEXCEL 17-U team to national titles last month at the Suwanee Tournament of Champions in Atlanta; the Battle in the Boro in Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and the Mike White Summer Playoffs in Charlotte. Last season the 6-foot wing surpassed 1,000 career points for the Minutemen.
