FACES IN THE CROWD

Kelly Jekot | Enola, Pa. | Basketball

Kelly, a 6' 1" senior guard at Cumberland Valley High, scored 28 points and had six rebounds and three assists in a 57--34 win over Cardinal O'Hara High for the PIAA Class 4A title, the Eagles' third straight. The state's two-time reigning Gatorade player of the year, Kelly finished her high school career with 2,141 points. She will attend Villanova.

Myles Martin | Penns Grove, N.J. | Wrestling

Martin, a freshman at Ohio State, defeated top-seeded Bo Nickal of Penn State 11--9 to win the 174-pound title at the NCAA Division I championships, becoming the first true freshman national champ in program history. As a senior at McDonogh School (Owings Mills, Md.), he won National Preps and Maryland independent school titles.

Baylee Goddard | Orange Park, Fla. | Softball

Baylee, a freshman third baseman at MaxPreps national No. 1--ranked Oakleaf High, hit a solo home run to beat Atlantic Coast High 1--0. She then homered in her next two games: a 2--0 win over Bartram Trail High and a 13--0 defeat of First Coast High. Baylee, batting .514 for the 19--0 Lady Knights through Sunday, has verbally committed to Florida.

Walter Whyte | New Haven, Conn. | Basketball

Walter, a 6' 5" junior shooting guard at St. Luke's School in New Canaan, scored 21 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Storm to a 74--68 overtime victory over Pingree School to take the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class C title. Walter, who was named tournament MVP, averaged 19.8 points and 9.3 boards per game on the season.

Olivia Smoliga | Glenview, Ill. | Swimming

Smoliga, a junior at Georgia, won the 50-yard freestyle in an NCAA-record 21.21 seconds at the Division I championships to lead the Bulldogs to the national title. Her time is the second fastest by a U.S. swimmer. (Abbey Weitzeil swam 21.12 earlier in March.) Last July, Smoliga won silver in the 100-meter backstroke (1:00.06) at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Jack Lindell | Edina, Minn. | Swimming

Lindell, a junior at Denison, won four events at the NCAA Division III championships to lead the Big Red to the national title. He set a D-III record in the 200-yard individual medley (1:46.00), a school mark in the 400 IM (3:47.63) and added titles in the 200 back (1:46.10) and 800 free relay (6:32.55). He was named D-III swimmer of the year.
