FACES IN THE CROWD

John Petty | Huntsville, Ala. | Basketball

John, a 6' 6" senior guard at Mae Jemison High, had 22 points, 11 rebounds and four steals to lead the Jaguars to a 58--52 win over Faith Academy for the Class 5A title. The state Gatorade Player of the Year for the second straight season, he averaged 21.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.2 blocks. John has commited to Alabama.

Camille Leonard | Oakville, Ont. | Hockey

Leonard, a senior goaltender at Plattsburgh State, made 29 saves in a 4--3 overtime victory over Adrian for the Division III championship. The D-III leader in goals-against average (1.11), she finished second all time in shutouts (30). Leonard also set school marks for career goals-against average (0.99) and winning percentage (.949).

Novie McCabe | Winthrop, Wash. | Nordic Skiing

Novie, a freshman at Liberty Bell High, won the under-16 5K (14:14.6) and the Classic Sprint (4:48.16) at the Cross Country Junior Nationals in Lake Placid, N.Y. Two weeks later, she took the U-16 1.1K (2:28.47) and the 5K (14:18.6) at the Canadian nationals. Novie also won the 1B/2B state title in the 5,000-meter run (18:51.9).

Lenaami Morton | Camden, N.J. | Track and Field

Lenaami, a senior at Camden High, won the 55-meter hurdles (8.25) and ran anchor for the first-place 4 × 51.5 shuttle hurdles relay (33.04) at the state championship. A week later at the Meet of Champions, she finished first in the 55-meter hurdles (7.94). Lenaami also took the state title in the event last year (8.37).

Zach Roseberry | Nokesville, Va. | Wrestling

Roseberry, a senior at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pa., won his second straight Division III title. Competing at 285 pounds, he defeated Donny Longendyke of Augsburg 3--2. It was Roseberry's 60th victory in a row. He finished the season 41--0 and went 134--12 for his career, setting a school record for victories.

Elle Ruffridge | Pocahontas, Iowa | Basketball

Elle, a 5' 3" senior guard at Pocahontas Area High, had 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists to help beat Sioux Center 61--38 and win a second straight Class 3A title. Elle, who averaged 30.0 points and 7.3 assists, finished as Iowa's leader in points (2,951), assists (802) and three-point field goals (466). She will play at Missouri State.
