Pairs for The Course

A new movie inspires a look at father-son golfers

IT'S TEMPTING to say that Hollywood is catching up with the Morris family, Tom Sr. and Tom Jr., better known as Old Tom and Young Tom, the golf pros from St. Andrews who won eight of the first 13 British Opens (four each). But Tommy's Honour, a new movie about their relationship (opening on Friday), is an independent production filmed in Scotland with Scottish leads and directed by Jason Connery, son of the very Scottish Sean. As a result the movie gets the look, the accents and, most important, the golf right, though—no spoilers—Young Tom's tragic story reaches far beyond the game. Many other father-son pairs have played professionally, but none can match the consistency and shared prowess of the Morrises.
