Chuck Redux

When shooting the movie Chuck (out on May 5), based on the life of Chuck Wepner, the Bayonne Bleeder, the producers remembered an iconic SI cover that came out before Wepner's March 1975 bout with Muhammad Ali. The issue featured a photo of Wepner under the words, "Boxing's Strange Encounter." For the film, the Chuck team thought it would be cool to reproduce the photo with lead actor Liev Schreiber in place of Wepner. When filming was completed, producer Mike Tollin showed the new shot to SI's executive editor, Jon Wertheim. "He said, 'Oh, yeah, I remember that cover,'" says Tollin. "He didn't even realize it wasn't the original. I said, 'Look again.' His eyes got wide, and he said, 'Wow. That's amazing.'" Try to spot the differences.
