Gabe Oladipo | Missouri City, Texas | Track and Field
Gabe, a senior at Fort Bend Hightower High, finished first in two events at the Jesuit Sheaner Relays in Dallas. He threw the discus 215'2" to break the 12-year-old meet record by 18'4" and tie the state mark set by Minnesota Vikings defensive end Brian Robison. Gabe also put the shot 62'10". He will compete at Texas A&M.
Mike Pickett | Fleming Island, Fla. | Soccer
Pickett, 52, the girls' coach at St. John's Country Day in Orange Park, finished a 25--0 season with a 2--0 win over Lakeland Christian in the Class 1A finals, earning his sixth consecutive state title. It was the Spartans' 44th win in a row and 57th straight game without a loss. Pickett won state titles in 1980 and '81 as a St. John's defender.
Kayla Boseman | Ooltewah, Tenn. | Softball
Kayla, a junior pitcher and outfielder at Ooltewah High, threw a no-hitter, striking out eight, and went 4 for 4 with a home run in an 11--0 win over Soddy-Daisy. Through 31 games she had a 1.18 ERA and was hitting .495. As a sophomore Kayla went 19--4 with a 2.04 ERA while batting .589 with 21 homers. She has committed to Mississippi State.
Ashwin Chona | Irvine, Calif. | Baseball
Ashwin, a sophomore lefthander at Sage Hill School in Newport Coast, threw his fourth no-hitter in five starts for a 12--0 victory over Animo Leadership. His previous no-hitters came against Whitney, Santa Rosa and Calvary Chapel; after that he shut out Brethren Christian on two hits. Through 532/3 innings Ashwin had an 0.52 ERA with 81 K's.
Abigail Whitmer | Tuscaloosa, Ala. | Equestrian
Abigail, a sophomore at North Ridge High, won the varsity open championship class at the Interscholastic Equestrian Association nationals in Lexington, Va., and was named the IEA's hunt seat rider of the year. She had enough combined points in equitation over fences and on the flat to qualify for the final.
George Harwell | Nashville | Tennis
George, a senior at Montgomery Bell Academy, defeated Drew Singerman of St. Xavier 6--3, 6--3 to win the Rotary tennis tournament A-division title. Last year he beat Ensworth's Miles Jackson for his second straight Division II-AA state championship, after taking down McCallie's Cody Gubin in 2015. George will play at Vanderbilt.
