Goal Oriented

In 2014, Samantha Dewey (above) kicked a 23-yard field goal to seal a 17--14 victory for Triton Central in Fairland, Ind., over Lutheran High, landing her in a September edition of FACES IN THE CROWD. Dewey is still kicking footballs, but only for fun. Most of her footwork is done on the soccer field. Last season Dewey, a rising junior forward at Xavier, led the Musketeers in points (20) and goals (eight). This year she hopes to lead Xavier to the Big East tournament, and her football background could help, since, she says, playing high-school football impacted her competitiveness. "The guys I played with had a totally different approach to sports," she says. "They influenced my attitude and the way I thought about competing."
