DAWG DAYS

The bulldog is the face of 39 colleges around the country, making it the third-most-common mascot, behind the eagle (74) and the tiger (46). One of the most notable is Uga, Georgia's white English bulldog, who wears a spiked collar and a red jersey. The original Uga came on the scene in 1956, and his nine successors have all descended from the same line—and are all buried in marble vaults near the main gate of Sanford Stadium. The reigning Uga spends game days on the field, in an air-conditioned doghouse located next to the (human) cheerleaders.
