Maria Sanchez, who appeared in the Jan. 27, 2014, FACES IN THE CROWD after setting the Idaho high school record with 178 career goals, has finally left home. The American Falls native played her first two years of college soccer at Idaho State, of the mid-level Big Sky Conference, where she set single-season school records by scoring 0.88 goals and 2.0 points per game as a sophomore. But Sanchez, who also plays for the Mexican national team, knew that to chase her pro dream she needed to compete at a higher level. She now plays for Santa Clara, where she has three goals and three assists through eight games. "I'm looking forward to learning from my teammates and coaches, and playing better competition," she says.
