In a five-inning mercy-rule victory over Detroit Mercy on March 28, Michigan softball's freshman pitchers Meghan Beaubien (right) and Sarah Schaefer combined for a no-hitter. In addition to being teammates, they are both former FACES IN THE CROWD. Beaubien, a lefty from Newport, Mich. (FACES, Aug. 7, 2017), struck out nine in four innings, and Schaefer, a righthander from West Des Moines, Iowa (FACES, Aug. 17, 2015), retired the side in the final frame. And they're not the only former FACES dominating hitters in the circle this collegiate season. Through three months of play six others have thrown no-hitters or perfect games (table, right). For Beaubien and Schaefer, this was just more of the same. Beaubien threw a no-hitter two days later against Purdue, while Schaefer had pitched a perfect game 10 days earlier against Robert Morris.
