TONY HAWK'S SKATE JAM
Available Dec. 13 on iOS and Android
Nineteen years after Tony Hawk's Pro Skater became a sensation, the skateboarding icon is bringing a new video game to your phone with Skate Jam. Dropping on Dec. 13, it allows fans new and old to grab, grind and flip through 15 skate parks. Working with Maple Media, Hawk insisted that Skate Jam, which is free to play, maintain some of what made the original games so great, including the ability to chain insane combos and a soundtrack of handpicked punk songs. "Playing it, I felt the same excitement I did on the original series," he says. Naturally his foray into mobile gaming required some modifications, and Hawk consulted his kids on how to transport the controls from joysticks and buttons to a flat screen. But the basic premise hasn't changed: Skate through parks, perform tricks and rack up rewards. Hawk's highest-scoring combo so far? A half-million points.
