MANNY PACQUIAO VS. ADRIEN BRONER
Jan. 19, Showtime
Manny Pacquiao turned 40 last month, but the eight-division champ is still punching. Ahead of his bout against Adrien Broner (33-3-1, 24 KOs), Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs) sat down with SI's Greg Bishop.
SI: Did you ever think you'd be getting ready for a fight at age 40?
MP: At age 40, hunger is still there—especially in preparation for the fight.
SI: What adjustments do you make at this age?
MP: The only adjustment that I made is when I push myself to the limit and I feel something in my body that is not yet recovered—then I rest until I recover. And push again.
SI: Bernard Hopkins fought when he was 50. Can you envision yourself fighting for 10 more years?
MP: I don't know. I feel O.K. God knows.
SI: People might look at your career and wonder what's left to accomplish. How would you answer that?
MP: I want my name in the top, always. I'm happy giving honor to my country. That's my desire: giving happiness to the fans, especially to the Filipino people.
