AMERICAN PHAROAH'S FIRST PROGENY ARE HITTING THE TRACK
SINCE RETIRING from racing in 2015, Triple Crown winner American Pharoah has sired hundreds of foals from the stables at Coolmore Ashford Stud for six-figure fees. His yearlings—including the cleverly named Mia Pharoah, Egyptian Princess and American Dream—have sold for as much as $2.2 million at auction. Now some are starting to hit the track as 2-year-olds. On April 13, Monarch of Egypt, a chestnut colt who sold for $750,000 last September, comfortably won a five-furlough race at Naas Racecourse in Ireland. Five others have since debuted.

Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya, the holder of the marathon world record at 2:01:39, set in Berlin last September, who also ran a 2:00:25 in an unofficial Nike-sponsored time trial in 2017, announced he will once again attempt to break two hours this October in London. To break the barrier, Kipchoge, 34, will have to average 4:34.57 per mile over the 26.2-mile course. To put that into perspective, consider this:
