Joe Jares
Joe Jares was an SI writer for more than 15 years, covering more than 20 sports but mostly college basketball and tennis. Before SI, he was a prize-winning general-assignment reporter for the Los Angeles Times. After SI, he was for 20 years a columnist and editor for the Los Angeles Daily News. He is the author or co-author of nine books, including Whatever Happened to Gorgeous George?, a humorous look at the blood and ballyhoo of professional wrestling and his ring-villain father. SI named it one of the 100 best sports books of all time. Jares taught many journalism classes at his alma mater, USC. In 2015 he was inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame.
